Taking the champion’s cup home for haggis…
In May this year, local Inverclyde butcher Mearns T McCaskie was crowned Scottish champion for its homemade haggis. The shop also won the title of West of Scotland Champion for its beef burger and Reserve Champion in Scotland for pork sausages. Owner Nigel Ovens described the win as one of his best days in his business career and to win the haggis champion was like the Holy Grail for butchers. The business plans to build a production facility at the rear of its Wemyss Bay shop to focus on production and development of their award-winning Haggis.
Nigel tells us ‘At McCaskie’s we always aim to always deliver top quality. Average is never good enough for us. Our awards by our industry peers mean the world to us.These awards also bring extra footfall to both our shop in Wemyss Bay and onto our website. The awards help bring extra revenue that we can use to secure better products, deliver an even better service and it also gives our staff a more secure future.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our customers who believe in quality. It’s always you we try to impress. It’s you we depend on to spread the word and help other people enjoy the McCaskie experience’.
